PG&E Offers Free Workshop for Growers on Rebates and Incentives

Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) invites you to a session specifically for agriculture customers. The focus will be on how your business can manage electricity costs. PG&E representatives will discuss Time-Varying Pricing, energy efficiency, tools and programs to help better manage your energy costs.

The workshop will be on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Fresno County Farm Bureau office, at 1274 West Hedges Ave., Fresno, CA 93728 from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm.

Brandman University will be hosting a job fair on its Hanford campus on March 6th-- specifically for educators. It will go from noon to 4 p.m. at 325 Mall Drive.

School districts with immediate openings will be on hand to review resumes and conduct on-the-spot interviews. Positions being filled include K-12 single and multiple subjects, and special education in multiple schools including Hanford Elementary, Hanford High School, Lemoore Elementary, Coalinga-Huron, and Exeter.

"If you are a teacher looking for a great position in the area, you don’t want to miss this event," said event organizer Shelsy Hutchison, Manager of Community Relations Brandman.

The Fresno Regional Foundation (FRF) is accepting applications for its 2013 Youth Grant Cycle and will be granting $206,000 to youth-serving organizations. Of this amount, $105,000 will be earmarked specifically for Dinuba, Cutler-Orosi, Orange Cove, and Reedley for youth and education. The grant amount range is $5,000 to $25,000. In addition, $10,000 will be earmarked for charter school petition development.

FRF will fund organizations serving children 4th to 12th grade that address the social, education, and health challenges impacting youth in our region, while working collaboratively with community partners to provide services.

To share information about grants, FRF will be hosting a grant information webinar on February 21 at 11 a.m. and an in-person grant information session on February 28 at 1 p.m.

USDA Opens For Latest Round of Farm-To-School Grants

Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan has released a request for applications (RFA) for the latest round of USDS Farm-to-School Grants.

These grants help eligible schools improve the health and wellbeing of their students and connect with local agricultural producers.

"USDA's Farm-to-School grants connect schools with their local farmers, ranchers and food businesses, providing new economic opportunities to food producers and bringing healthy, local offerings into school cafeterias," said Merrigan.

Alltech North American Lecture comes to Visalia

During this year’s 28th annual North American Lecture Tour, Alltech will be challenging attendees to Stay Curious.

The lecture tour travelling throughout North America will be making a stop in Visalia on Wednesday, February 27. The event will take place at the Visalia Marriott  and Convention Center beginning at 9:00 am.  Advance registration is not required.

State Needs Your Input on High Speed Rail

Caltrans, which manages two of the nation’s busiest passenger rail lines, is asking its rapidly growing passenger base what they think about rail systems in the Golden State.

The department will host five public open houses and a statewide webinar this month to solicit input on the draft California State Rail Plan (CSRP), which will lay out a vision for freight, passenger and high-speed rail in the state. The draft plan is available here and comments can be submitted through March 11.  

“Each year, nearly six million passengers ride the trains in California,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty.
