West Hills College Lemoore Honors Spirit of the Eagle Award Recipient | Community Spirit
Long time Lemoore resident Les Brown was honored Wednesday at West Hills College Lemoore’s honors brunch with the college’s top award for community members-the Spirit of the Eagle award, recognizing a community member who has contributed to the growth and development of the college by the giving of their time or treasure to support educational endeavors for West Hills College students, said Don Warkentin, WHCL president.
Brown is chairman of the college’s Citizens Bond Oversight Committee for Measure E, a general obligation bond that was passed by the citizens in SFID #3 (Lemoore, Avenal, and Riverdale) in 2008.The committee is responsible for overseeing all expenditures of bond monies used for construction and development of new facilities for the college.
Taking on the role of chairman is a big responsibility and I appreciate Les Brown for his devoted time and leadership, added Warkentin.
Brown and his family have farmed in the Lemoore area for over 50 years. He has served several terms as a member of the Kings County Board of Supervisors representing the Lemoore area including the area where the college now stands.
Past recipients have included the Pederson/Semas families, Tony Oliveira, Ron Meade, Fred Harrell, Lynda Lahodny, Ed Galdrikian, Sky Wild Dixon, and WHCL charter president Barbara Hioco.
