Kings Co. Deputy Shoots At Man Who Points Gun At Him

            On November 28, 2012, at about 12:30 a.m., a KCSO Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for various vehicle code violations, including traveling at speeds in excess of 85 miles per hour in a residential area.  The traffic stop was initiated near Alkali Dr. and 17th Ave., near the Santa Rosa Rancheria.  The vehicle did not yield to the Deputy Sheriff's emergency lights and sirens, ultimately leading the deputy on a pursuit throughout the Rancheria.

Homemade Bomb Found in Lemoore Home During Drug Search

On Saturday November 24, 2012, at approximately 2245 hours, the Kings County Narcotic Task Force (KCNTF) and the Kings County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) served a narcotic search warrant at 21551 Fargo Avenue, Lemoore CA, 93245. The subject of the search warrant was 34 year old, Austin Warchol whom was arrested earlier in the day by the Lemoore Police Department. Warchol was already in custody at the Kings County Jail for various narcotic related offenses as well as traffic warrants. During the search of the residence Investigators located a possible Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Investigators evacuated the house and called the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office (FSO) EOD unit for assistance. The FSO EOD unit responded and rendered the IED safe. FSO EOD determined that the item was in fact an IED (bomb).

On Friday, November 23 2012, at approximately 2049 hours Deputies were contacted by Child Protective Services (CPS) regarding a child being treated at Valley Children's Hospital with suspicious injuries. The seven week-old child had a broken arm, a cracked rib, and bruising on its head and body. Detectives from the Kings County Sheriffs Office responded to Valley Children's Hospital and arrested the child's twenty year old father, Jonathon Tafoya.

Tafoya was booked into the Kings County Jail for felony child abuse and torture with a Bail of $625,000. The child will be taken into Protective custody by Child Protective Services when released from the hospital.

Deputy Shoots, Kills Man Swinging Golf Club; ID Released

The man who was shot and killed by a deputy in Kings County over the weekend has been identified.

The Kings County Sheriff's Department has identified him as 53-year-old Steven Crawley.

Shortly before noon Saturday, Crawley's family members called for help, saying he was swinging a golf club wildly around his house on Kansas Avenue, south of Hanford. They said he was breaking things and threatening to hurt them.

Kings County Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam said deputies tried to calm Crawley down and negotiate with him.

Instead, Putnam said, Crawley charged at the deputies with his club. One deputy opened fire, shooting him twice.

Crawley was taken to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford where he later died.

The deputy who shot the man is a 10-year veteran with the Kings County Sheriff's Department and is on paid administrative leave.

A Kings County man who swung a golf club at deputies is dead, after one deputy opened fire.

The shooting happened just before noon Saturday, inside a home on Kansas Avenue, south of Hanford.

A man at the home called for help - saying his brother was swinging a golf club wildly around the house, breaking things and threatening to hurt him.

The Kings County sheriff says, deputies tried to calm the man down and negotiate with him.

As they were going into the home the sheriff says, the man swung at them with the golf club and as deputies started to back up, the man charged at them.

One deputy opened fire, shooting the man twice.

Woman Burns American Flag Inside Tachi Palace Casino, Deputies Say

A Lemoore woman is behind bars facing arson charges after authorities say she burned an American flag inside a casino.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Kings County Sheriff's Office received a call about a possible arson at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore.

When they got there, deputies investigated and determined that 34-year-old Margaret Barrios lit an American flag on fire near the gift shop on the main floor of the casino, Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam said.

Barrios was arrested at her home and booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of arson of an inhabited structure. Her bail was set at $250,000.

Damage to the casino is estimated at $500, Putnam said.
