Santa Ana and W. Rialto Avenues in area known as Rialto Ranchos.  The City, through its redevelopment agency, acquired properties in this area in order to develop affordable single-family housing.  With the elimination of redevelopment the City is now seeking innovative proposals to construct either single-family homes or senior housing units. A Request for Proposal package has been prepared and is available for interested parties by contacting Andy Haussler, Housing Program Manager at andrewh@cityofclovis.com.  All proposals are due by January 15, 2014.

Remember This is Daylight Saving Time

Remember This is Daylight Saving Time

Your smoke alarm has the power to save your life. Or does it? If you haven't tested your smoke alarm lately, it may not be working.  And that's a risk you can't afford to take.  Working smoke alarms give us early warning of a fire, providing extra time to escape safely.  But they can't do their job if you haven’t done yours – testing and replacement of smoke alarm batteries.

As you set your clocks back this November 2nd, take the extra hour you gain and invest that time in replacing the batteries in each of your home smoke alarms.  While replacing the batteries, take a look at the detector and perform some simple maintenance:

·        Using a small vacuum or duster, clean the exterior and interior of any dust that may have accumulated on the alarm.  Dust can reduce the effectiveness of the alarm by interfering with the sensors.

Let the Lavender Harvest Begin!

Let the Lavender Harvest Begin!

Herbs and More, a horticultural-based day program for developmentally disabled adults, is holding two you-pick days during lavender harvest.

Herbs and More is celebrating its sixth anniversary! It allows developmentally disabled adults from the Central Valley Regional Center to take part in planting and harvesting a wide variety of herbs and the production and packaging of products.

The third annual lavender festival will be held on two consecutive Saturdays, June 8, and June 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. Lavender is an herb that has been used for centuries due to its fragrance and medicinal properties. It is antiseptic, repels insects, soothes burns and minor cuts and, perhaps most prominently, it has a calming and relaxing effect, making it a great sleep aid and stress reducer.

All funds raised through the program go toward salaries for the individuals and product development.
