Applications Being Accepted for Prestigious Fellowship Program

Assembly Republican Leader Connie Conway, of Tulare, wants to remind you that the deadline is approaching for the prestigious 2013-14 Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program. Applications are being accepted through February 11, 2013.

Capitol fellows work as legislative assistants for members of the Assembly or policy committees, while taking graduate seminars offered through California State University, Sacramento.

“Legislative fellows have gone on to serve on the California State Supreme Court, in Congress, and as members of the Legislature.

Governor Brown Signs Same-Day Voter Registration Law

Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed a bill that makes it easier for Californians to vote by allowing same-day voter registration.

“Voting—the sacred right of every citizen—should be simple and convenient,” said Governor Brown.

Veterans Corner: Memorial Day Thoughts

Memorial Day means different things to different people. To some it is the unofficial beginning of summer — picnics with family, trips to the beach, a day off from work. It’s too easy to lose sight of the real reason for the holiday.

For all of us, Memorial Day should be that time when we commemorate those men and women who served in our military, and many times gave their lives so that we as a nation may enjoy the freedoms we so easily take for granted.

Gone are the days when we could sit back and know that our oceans would protect us.

Every three years, since 2000, the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources division has been inviting dairy farmers throughout the United States to pick one milker and then answer the survey with this individual in mind.

Just a quick reminder about this week's meeting

Wed. April 25th, 6pm @ Ethel Red's in Lemoore.

Our featured speakers will be State Assembly Candidates, Jon McQuiston and Pedro Rios.

The newly drawn 32nd Assembly District consists of Kings County, Northern Kern County, and East Bakersfield. This seat is always a target for both parties and will be crucial in regards to valley representation. At the meeting we will decide to endorse one candidate, or the other...or neither. NOTE: Only active (dues paying) members may vote. So if you are a member and you want to participate in the voting process please bring your dues payment.
