Check Out the "Lantern Light Ghost Tour" in Allensworth Saturday

On January 19th, Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park will offer a lantern light ghost tour of the century old town of Allensworth.

The Park preserves the only town in California founded, built, and populated by African Americans and is the only State Park in Tulare County.

While walking through the inky darkness with the creatures of the night, visitors will hear stories of unexplained noises and strange happenings in and around the historic buildings.

The Porterville Ghost Society will be available to show how their equipment and devices are used to detect paranormal activity attached to the home of Colonel Allensworth along with other homes of the community.

This will be a unique experience for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of this isolated town and has a desire to do something a little out of the ordinary.

The tour will begin at 8:30pm and will last approximately 90 minutes.

West Hills College Lemoore Will Add 60 Classes for Spring

West Hills College Lemoore Will Add 60 Classes for Spring

Thanks to the recent voter passage of Proposition 30, which restored some budget dollars to California Community Colleges, West Hills Community College District will add about 100 classes to the spring schedule at its campuses. Class offerings will be expanded for next year’s summer schedule as well.

The additional 100 classes are those with the highest demand, and the expansion of offerings is specifically designed to alleviate the logjam students have faced in recent years. The classes were chosen with the goal of providing students the ability to complete career training or obtaining credits needed for college transfer. The expanded schedule includes traditional classroom as well as online courses.

The decision comes as open registration for spring classes is already under way. The additional classes will be added to the online schedule and available for registration on Monday, Dec. 10 beginning at 12:01 a.m.

Yosemite National Park to Waive Fees for Veterans Day Weekend

In celebration of Veterans Day, Yosemite National Park will offer free admission on Saturday, November 10 through Monday, November 12. This fee free weekend is offered to all visitors in honor of current members, retired members, and reserve members of the United States armed forces and their families.

This fee free weekend has been observed since 2006. Waiving entrance fees to all public lands on Veterans Day and Veterans Day Weekend is one way to show appreciation for the millions of men and women who fight to keep America’s public lands accessible to all Americans.

Veteran’s Day falls on November 11 of every year.

Check Before You Burn Begins 10th Season

Check Before You Burn Begins 10th Season

The 10th season of an important wintertime pollution-reduction program begins Thurs., Nov. 1.

Because of Valley residents’ ongoing efforts and understanding of the importance of changing long-ingrained habits in ways that reduce emissions, Check Before You Burn has resulted in historically clean wintertime air quality in the Valley over the past several years. The wood-burning curtailment program is critical in minimizing levels of harmful particulate matter (PM) in the eight-county air basin.

“Thanks to the public’s support and cooperation, this rule is the single most-effective, lowest-cost regulation on record in the Valley,” said Seyed Sadredin, the District’s executive director and air pollution control officer.
