Check Out the "Lantern Light Ghost Tour" in Allensworth Saturday

On January 19th, Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park will offer a lantern light ghost tour of the century old town of Allensworth.

The Park preserves the only town in California founded, built, and populated by African Americans and is the only State Park in Tulare County.

While walking through the inky darkness with the creatures of the night, visitors will hear stories of unexplained noises and strange happenings in and around the historic buildings.

The Porterville Ghost Society will be available to show how their equipment and devices are used to detect paranormal activity attached to the home of Colonel Allensworth along with other homes of the community.

This will be a unique experience for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of this isolated town and has a desire to do something a little out of the ordinary.

The tour will begin at 8:30pm and will last approximately 90 minutes.

Several tourism entities and representatives from three National Parks have unveiled a new cooperative promotion highlighting Kings, Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks.

The program, called Majestic Mountain Loop, will help visitors looking to experience some of California’s most popular attractions, was created by Visalia Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau, and Fresno Yosemite International Airport.

“We see a lot of people who come through the area looking to see as much as they can during the limited time they have on their trips.

Be Prepared If You Want to See the Big Trees!

Be Prepared If You Want to See the Big Trees!

Temperatures and weather patterns can be drastically different throughout the valley—but it’s even more extreme in the national parks!

Daytime temperatures can vary 20-30 degrees depending on your location. While shorts and sandals may be appropriate in the foothills in the spring and early summer, it may not be in the higher elevations where there may be several feet of snow on the ground.

Why do I have to use tire chains here?

You can't see the Big Trees without them and you may not be safe without them!

Tire chains or cables may be required throughout most of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks due to snowfall/storms at any time between early fall through late spring/early summer.

Upon entering these chain-restricted areas, visitors need to have proper fitting chains in good repair. Ensure that chains fit and practice installing them prior to entering the parks.

WHC Lemoore Hosts State Wrestling Championships Friday & Saturday

WHC Lemoore Hosts State Wrestling Championships Friday & Saturday

The CCCAA State Wrestling Championship Tournament is coming to WHCL this Friday and Saturday. The top two teams in the competition on Dec. 7 and 8 are the northern and southern champions: Fresno City College in the north and host West Hills College Lemoore from the south, whose campuses are only 35 miles apart.

“Fresno City is the southern-most college in the northern region,” explained WHCL Coach Kent Olson. “And we’re the northern-most school in the southern region.”

It adds a cross-town rivalry feel to the event, which Olson recognizes, but he is more focused on getting his team ready to beat the neighboring college. “They’re very tough,” he said of Fresno City, which has been ranked No. 1 all season. “But we have a good shot.”
